Itanos or Erimoupolis is approximately  25km east of Sitia just north of the palm tree forest of Vai. Τhere are the three beaches and three bays in the area. If you visit Itanos you can combine swimming  with a visit to the archaeological site of ancient city Itanos, from which the name of the area was taken. If you like to dive or snorkel you will love to watch the part of the ancient Itanos that is under water. In order to get to the beaches you will have to follow the paths that lead to them and begin from the archaeological site and parking area.
Erimoupolis beach is located in front of the parking area of the archaeological site. It's a sandy beach but also has rocks in some places. In the beach there are also some tamarisk trees that offer shadow.
The south beach is located back from the small fort about five minutes by foot. There are some palm trees that create a beautiful scenery and offer their shade as well. The beach is sandy and the waters crystal clear.
The north beach is the most beautiful. Its behind the hill north of the parking area and you can get there if you follow the path for about five minutes. It's the longest and the most well known beach with fine sand and turquoise waters.
